Laziness breeds laziness
And that’s why, after nine weeks of work-loaded wackiness, I have spent the past two and a half on my couch. I am kind of scaring myself though since I expected to snap out of it by now. In the meantime I am going to return to my marathon viewing of Dance Moms, Friends, and anything teen mom or wedding related (this two week or so hiatus from life has also taught me that I am a reality TV...

My feelings exactly after finishing the longest, and hardest, semester of my life (hence why I have been MIA). Goodbye library, hello glorious freedom!!!

Lady Gaga for Mugler Spring 2012 →
This is actually the brainwashing video from Zoolander. Am I right or what? I mean, the pigtails too? I can’t.

Only in New York
As I was waiting for the 7 train to go to Grand Central a homeless man walked right next to me. He was sipping a very spiked Arizona Iced Tea, and I, being the jaded New Yorker, continued to look straight ahead. He said to me “Come on, smile.” And then as the train was entering the station he flipped around his piece of cardboard which read: “Let’s do lunch sometime, you...

Andrew Bowen's view on mice and celiac disease
Me: “I wouldn’t care [about the mouse] but it probably carries a million diseases.” Andrew: “Whatever we carry diseases…cough Celiac cough. Colleen became lactose after living with you, I really don’t want to catch it!”
Glad to know he supports me.
Announcement
Dear friends,
The bulk of my text on this site will now be posted on Pretty and Plastered’s more official blog: lauren-prettyandplastered.blogspot.com. I have ben using and abusing my tumblr for five functions too many so I decided to keep majority of the writing over there, and leave the tumblr to what it does best —look pretty.
xx Lauren

Embarassing moment of the day
By 10:30 am today I had already managed to walk an entire NYC block with my dress caught between my legs. This was almost as bad as the time freshman year, cursed on crutches, I hobbled across the entire length of Washington Square Park with my laundry day granny panties flying high in the wind for all of Greenwich Village to see. At least this time I was wearing leggings, and it probably just...

Why the world is out to get me →
… It’s because I am a redhead. Growing up with old Jewish women stopping me in the supermarket to say “OH MA GAWD your hair is GORGEOUS,” and then confessing that my color was the color they always wanted but could never imitate, I was under the impression that my red hair was special. Screw Barbie I thought as a child, my locks were the ones to lust over. I brushed off...

Excerpt from Bonne Nouvelle
Here is an excerpt from a short story I am working on, Bonne Nouvelle —a series of scenes between the protagonist, Zoe, and her many beaus who all insist on taking her to Paris.
Saturday night, Summer 2005
It all began with a drunken stumble, naturally. She insisted on wearing her new 6- inch cage heels. Heels so high only they could instigate a fall of that epic a proportion. He insisted on...

This video is super poor quality, but I loved loved loved Anna Sui’s spring
‘12 line! Makes me want to go back in time to the forties, drive oceanside in a retro convertible, and wear cateye sunglasses as my silk headscarf billows in the wind.

War of the Roaches
Imagine that you are afraid of heights and all of the sudden you are thrust onto the edge of a steep cliff. Or, you are a germaphobe and you find your tongue uncontrollably licking the New York City streets. That is what was like for me to move into my new apartment.
August 1st 2011 was a scorching hot day and I had the unfortunate luck of moving into a 5th floor walk-up. Being the sensitive...

You've Got a Friend in Me
The cat’s out of the bag —the fashion industry is cut throat. And with books and films out there like The Devil Wear’s Prada and The September Issue this vicious image has been exploited to the point of glorification. I’ve always known I would have to grow a thick skin to work in this industry, bite the bullet if you will, listen to Kelly Cutrone and go outside if I needed...

Quote of the day (two days later)
On discussing the awkward state of being a teenager while watching “Awkward” on MTV.
Me: I am so sick of every show centering itself on being an awkward teenager. I am so over teenagers. I was over teenagers when I was a teenager.
Zach: How NYU of you. This is the school for people who are too cool to be teenagers.
Truth.
